These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Kodosi service, including the website at kodosi.com, the sign-in service at auth.kodosi.com and the hosted service that the Kodosi apps connect to (together, the "Service"). The Service is provided by the owners of Kodosi ("Kodosi", "we", "us" or "our").
Please read these Terms carefully before you use the Service. By creating an account or by accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you may not use the Service.
1. The Service
Kodosi is an app for Mac and Linux for working with terminals, coding agents and other people across computers. The Service connects your devices and your friends, keeps the records of your rooms, stores encrypted room content and relays encrypted terminal data between devices. Terminals and the programs in them run on your own computers, not on the Service.
The Kodosi apps and server software are open source, and anyone can run their own Kodosi server. These Terms apply only to the Service that we operate, not to servers that others run.
2. Accounts
- You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service.
- You must give accurate information, including a valid email address, and keep it up to date.
- An account is for one person. You must not share your account or create accounts by automated means.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account and on the devices that you approve, and for keeping your password, passkeys, recovery key and devices secure. Tell us at once at [email protected] if you suspect that someone else has access to your account.
- We may refuse, change or reclaim a username that impersonates others, infringes their rights or misleads.
3. Encryption and Your Data
Terminal data and room content are encrypted end to end. The keys are created and kept on your devices, and we do not have them. This means that:
- we cannot read your content, and we cannot recover it for you;
- if you lose all your devices and your recovery key, your encrypted content cannot be restored by anyone. A password reset restores access to your account, not to your encrypted content;
- room names, terminal names and device names are not encrypted end to end, as our Privacy Policy explains, so you must not put confidential information in them.
Your terminals, files and programs stay on your computers. You are responsible for your devices, your data and your backups. The Service is not a backup service, and we do not guarantee that any content stored on it will remain available.
5. Agents and Third-Party Services
Kodosi works with coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI, and with services such as GitHub and Gitea. We do not provide these agents and services. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to them, and you use them at your own risk.
- Agents act with the permissions of the terminal in which they run. They can change or delete files, run commands, post in rooms and update linked issues.
- You are responsible for the agents that you run or instruct, for reviewing their output before you rely on it, and for following the terms of their providers, including any rules on letting other people use your account through a shared terminal.
- We are not responsible for agents, for their output or for any third-party service.
6. Acceptable Use
You must not use the Service to:
- break the law, share illegal content, or infringe the rights of others;
- access computers, accounts or data without permission, or scan, probe or attack systems that you are not allowed to test;
- distribute malware, run botnets, or mine cryptocurrency on computers without their owner's permission;
- harass, threaten, deceive or impersonate others;
- send spam or unwanted invitations;
- create accounts automatically, get around the limits of the Service, or resell access to it without our permission;
- collect usernames or other data from the Service in bulk; or
- interfere with, overload or disrupt the Service, or get around its security measures.
We may investigate violations, change names that break these rules, suspend or close accounts, and report illegal activity to the authorities.
7. Your Content
You keep all rights to the content that you create and share through Kodosi. You give us the limited permission that is necessary to store and transmit it, in encrypted form, to the devices and people that you choose, only to operate the Service. You are responsible for your content, and you must have the right to share it.
8. Open Source and Trademarks
- The Kodosi apps and server software are licensed under the MIT License. Your use of the source code is governed by that license, and nothing in these Terms limits it.
- The MIT License does not cover the name Kodosi, the Kodosi logo or the app icons. You may use them only as our Trademark Policy permits.
- This website, including its text, images, animations and design, is not open source. You must not copy it without our permission.
9. Plans and Payment
The Service is free to use, within limits that we set and may change. Paid plans are not available yet. When they become available, their prices and conditions will be shown to you before you buy, and the rights that consumer law gives you, including any right to withdraw from a purchase, will apply.
10. Availability and Changes
We work to keep the Service running, but we do not guarantee that it will be available at any particular time or free of errors. We may change, suspend or discontinue the Service or any feature of it, including features marked as preview. Older versions of the apps may stop working with the Service. If we decide to shut down the Service, we will give you at least 30 days' notice.
11. Reporting Abuse
To report illegal content or abuse, write to [email protected] with the username or the room name concerned and the reason for your report. To report a security problem, write to [email protected]. Because content is encrypted, we act on reports and on the information that we can see. We may take the measures described in these Terms.
12. Termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time on your account page. We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you break these Terms, if the law requires it, or if your use puts the Service or others at risk.
When an account is deleted, we delete its data as our Privacy Policy describes. Rooms that the account owns close for everyone in them, and messages that it wrote in other people's rooms remain there. A deletion cannot be undone.
Sections 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15 continue to apply after termination.
13. Disclaimer
THE SERVICE AND THE SOFTWARE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE OR ERROR-FREE, THAT DATA WILL NOT BE LOST, OR THAT ENCRYPTION WILL PREVENT ALL UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS.
14. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, KODOSI WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING FROM SHARED TERMINALS, AGENTS, OTHER USERS, THIRD-PARTY SERVICES OR LOST KEYS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT THAT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND 100 US DOLLARS.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. If you are a consumer, you keep the rights that the mandatory consumer law of your country gives you.
15. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend and hold harmless Kodosi against any claims, losses and costs, including reasonable legal fees, that arise from your use of the Service, your content, your shared terminals and agents, or your breach of these Terms.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will give you at least 30 days' notice of material changes by email or in the apps. If you continue to use the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the Service and delete your account.
17. General
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we do not enforce a provision, we do not waive it. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. We may transfer these Terms to anyone who takes over the Service. Before you start legal proceedings, please contact us at [email protected] so that we can try to resolve the matter. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of your country of residence.
